So we’re back in lockdown. It is what it is. But, since we’re all stuck at home and quarantine anxiety may be on the rise, we thought we would offer you some of our best film and tv recommendations to help take your mind off of the everything.
First off, DON’T WATCH CONTAGION. Just don’t. I don’t know why it was so popular in the first lockdown but don’t start watching it now. If you want to scare yourself, watch a scary movie. Contagion is just a little too close to home.
1. Beyond the Boundary: ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Australia 2020
In this emotional documentary, watch the Australian Women’s T20 cricket team on their journey to victory. As you follow their 17-day struggle, delve into the challenges experienced by female athletes fighting for recognition in a male-dominated arena. See how far women’s sport has come and how far it has to go in this deeply moving and motivating film.

2. Fargo
Watch Fargo! That’s it. Just watch it. This is one of the most beautifully shot, well written, well-rounded shows you’ll get to see. Based on the incredible Coen brother’s movie (which is a must-see as well), follow 4 distinct and intertwined crime stories from America’s midwest. The first season tackles the same story as the famed film, though with some slight adjustments made. Billy Bob Thornton and Martin Freeman demonstrate their incomparable skill, jumping so quickly between good and evil you won’t know how to feel. As the connections and clues between the seasons become apparent, you’ll find yourself on the edge of your seat and marvelling at some truly remarkable cinematography. I cannot express this strongly enough. Watch this show.

3. Redfern Now
The award-winning Redfern Now is a truly beautiful and well-crafted series exploring the lives of 6 Indigenous Australian families living in Sydney. With every episode, meet new and powerful characters as the plot highlights the inequality of modern Australia, owing to our painful history of colonisation and systematic racism. Written, starring and produced by Indigenous Australians, this show is a must-watch for everyone.

4. Parasite
You know it, you’ve heard of it, and if you haven’t seen it yet it’s honestly a miracle. This incredible, Oscar-winning film grapples with greed and class disparity, keeping you on the edge of your seat the entire way. Not only did it garner widespread attention and critical acclaim, but it was the first non-English language film to win the Academy Award for Best Picture. A must watch every damn day.

5. Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Maybe you don’t want an award-winning drama this lockdown. Maybe for the next five days, you just want fun and carefree. Well for that, may we recommend Brooklyn Nine-Nine. From the minds of Andy Samberg and Dan Goor, watch this hilarious and easy-breezy workplace comedy, set in New York’s 99th precinct. Watch the romance, hardship and drama unfurl in a fun setting. With a well-rounded, perfectly balanced set of characters, figure out if you’re a Gina (like you ever could be) or a Jake (maybe if you’re messy). With season 8 on its way and marking the end of the show, binge the past 7 seasons and watch the next week fly by.
