2020 has caused many of us to change our viewing habits. We’re watching more and more every day, with approximately eight billion video views on Facebook per day and 75% of mobile traffic predicted to be video content by 2025.
As a result, it is crucial that we master what makes these videos so popular and, as such, we’d like to take you through the top video trends of 2021.
The continued rise of live streams
Following the age of zoom chats and webinars, Youtube has documented an elevated focus on live streams. 56% of people who have attended live streams thought they were as good as being at the event in-person and as such, they have gained significant popularity in 2020, offering one of the only covid safe alternatives. As a result, many media companies have predicted a continued rise of this 2020 trend.

We added live streams to our portfolio last year and have produced many successful forums, meetings and Christmas parties from a safe distance. As a result, if you wish to take up this trend in the new year we would be perfectly placed to help.
How-to content
If we look at the figures of those on video sharing platforms such as Youtube, we can see that a majority of visitors use the site for nostalgia or to learn a new skill. This comes as many are still stuck at home or trying to limit physical contact with others. As a result, many are predicting a significant focus on training videos, demonstration videos, and general how-to video content in 2021.
Of course, it is important that this style of video content is engaging, well-produced and cleanly edited. For an example of how that can be achieved, please see the video below in which Matt is keeping our clients in the loop about video production.
Shorter attention spans, shorter videos
It can’t have escaped your knowledge that, as viewing moves online and into mobile devices, our attention spans have been steadily decreasing. Marketing videos on social media platforms tend to boast better engagement when they last a minute or less and, though dependant on your content and aim, shorter videos are expected to do the best in 2021, owing in part to the rise of TikTok and Instagram Reels which harness quick clips.
Animated Videos
And finally, in 2021 we’re foreseeing a return to animated videos. Given the growing popularity of video marketing, animated videos are an option to differentiate your content from that of other companies. Not to mention, animated videos are easier to create from a distance, meaning Covid regulations are less likely to negatively impact your project.
Animation is a skill which needs to be practised and perfected. Luckily, The Jasper Picture Company is well known for our animated videos and will be able to help with whatever you hope to create.
