Travelling in Australia has become more important than ever.

Usually, in order to get away, you have to wait for a long weekend or use a cheeky sick day to make the most of your time. However, for two of our team, travel and work became one and the same as they drove around Victoria, capturing all the beauty it had to offer.

Our latest project with the Victorian Rural Generalists Program had us visit the Grampians, Hume, Loddon Mallee, Gippsland and Barwon over three weeks.

In each location we interviewed various rural generalists, learning why the profession is so crucial in rural communities. Anyone who has interviewed medical professionals will know that scheduling those meetings can be an impossible task. Over the three weeks we interviewed 16 Rural Generalists in lunch breaks and after work to discover what made their medical pathway unique.

In between each interview we tracked down all the hidden gems their region had to offer. We would drive 40 minutes away for the perfect sunrise shot and stop five times on the way back to capture the ever changing scenery.

The days were long, some lasting 12 hours as we drove from motel to motel. During one long, weary drive back to Melbourne we stopped in at a local winery which turned out to be small, family owned and with the most astounding view of the Victorian Alps. Speaking to the husband and wife who traded in their teaching career for a vineyard, we were blown away by their enduring hope and enthusiasm in what had been a difficult year for the service industry.

Countless hours went into planning this project, tracking down talent, finding feasible interview moments and hitting up every park, look out point, and underground beauty along the way.

And of course, all that hard work paid off. Each video we created was unique and told the story not only of a career path but a lifestyle, thriving in Victoria’s rural communities and demonstrating why, for many, city life isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
